About Registered Breeders

What is a registered breeder?

• A registered breeder owns cats or dogs which are specifically on the register for breeding purposes (no endorsements) in effect they have been approved for breeding programs.
• Registered breeders will usually have a cattery/kennel name or “prefix” and may belong to cat/dog clubs.
• Litters are registered with the association the breeder belongs to i.e. TICA, GCCF, WCF, CFA, KC and others.
• Breeders are bound by the rules of their association, which can vary however pedigree breeders advertising on this website agree to the following:

• All progeny bred are to be registered with their association and a transfer document is provided to new owners.
• A pedigree certificate (for cats) and for dogs or the ability for new owners to obtain one by way of the transfer document.
• Kittens should be fully vaccinated (core vaccines) before leaving the breeder.
• Kittens should not leave the breeder until a minimum of 12 weeks, some cat associations require kittens to be 14 weeks.
• Puppies should be a minimum of 8 weeks before leaving the breeder.

As well as the above, to advertise on this website breeders agree to the above minimum standards plus:

• Breeders have completed any relevant health tests required for their breed.
• Microchip cats and dogs before leaving the breeder.
• Offer new owners a free 1-month pet insurance policy or request that new owners obtain pet insurance in the contract of sale.
• Kittens and puppies should be adequately wormed prior to leaving the breeder.
• Provide a contract/dog or cat purchase agreement protecting the rights of buyer/seller.
• Provide basic information on feeding and care.
• Homing of cats over 6 months old must be neutered, homing of dogs over 2 years old must be neutered.
